Therapy with people who have been severely traumatized presents challenges to both the client and the therapist. The intensity of emotional and physical needs of trauma survivors with complex PTSD and Dissociative Disorders confront therapists with challenges of how best to manage those issues – for both the client and for the therapist.
|
Disorganized attachment processes have been theorized to contribute to a range of trauma-related psychopathologies in adulthood. Dr. Lyons-Ruth will focus on the current state of knowledge regarding parent-child interaction patterns associated with trajectories toward dissociation, borderline psychopathology, and suicidality, and present new interactional and neurobiological findings from recent longitudinal work.

It is well known, and documented, that clients with complex PTSD and Dissociation have a high level of suicide risk. The presence of non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI), suicide attempts (SA), and suicidal ideation (SI) in these clients is a constant challenge to both clients and therapists.
