Abstract
This webinar provides an introduction to the Journal of Trauma and Dissociation and its history as the official Journal of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation and the lead professional journal in the field of trauma and dissociation. The webinar begins with an appreciation of the Journal's past Editors and introduction of the current Editorial Board members, as well as a summary of past and upcoming  special issues, and highlights from recent and forthcoming issues, by the Journal Editor.

This is followed by an introduction of the current Associate Editors, each of whom will present a JTD article that has had an important impact on the field, in order to highlight the Journal's contributions and to provide a unique overview of the evolution of the field of clinical and research studies on trauma and dissociation.

Target Audience

Those seeking to participate in this webinar must be licensed mental health professionals (psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical social workers, mental health counselors, accredited psychotherapists, etc.). ISSTD staff will audit license information prior to the start of the course and may request additional documentation for your license.

We do accept students enrolled in a program of study leading to a degree or certification in the mental health field and who have an interest in trauma and dissociation. Students must submit proof of student status such as a transcript or registration record. For those who have completed their degree and are currently in the pre-licensure stage practicing under the license of another clinician, you must provide the name and license information for the person you are working with. Documentation should be sent to ISSTD staff at [email protected] before registering.

Presenter: Julian Ford, PhD
Presenter Bio: Julian D. Ford, Ph.D., A.B.P.P. is a board certified clinical psychologist and Professor of Psychiatry and Law at the University of Connecticut where he directs two Treatment and Services Adaptation Centers in the National Child Traumatic Stress Network: the Center for Trauma Recovery and Juvenile Justice and the Center for the Treatment of Developmental Trauma Disorders. Dr. Ford is Editor of the Journal of Trauma and Dissociation and Associate Editor for the Journal of Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities. He is a past President of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, and a Fellow of the American Psychological Association. He has published more than 350 articles and book chapters and is the author or editor of 10 books, including Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, 2nd Edition, Treating Complex Trauma: A Sequenced, Relationship-Based Approach, 2nd Edition, Treating Complex Traumatic Stress Disorders in Children and Adolescents: Scientific Foundations and Therapeutic Models, and Critical Moments: Transforming Crises into Turning Points in Psychotherapy.  Dr. Ford is the Principal Investigator for the national Developmental Trauma Disorder Field trial research study, and  developed and has conducted randomized clinical trial and effectiveness studies with the Trauma Affect Regulation: Guide for Education and Therapy (TARGET©) model for youths and adults with developmental trauma histories and complex PTSD. 

Presenter: Anne DePrince, PhD
Presenter Bio: Anne DePrince is a Distinguished University Professor at the University of Denver. An expert in betrayal trauma, Anne’s research prioritizes community-engaged approaches, partnering with survivors, criminal legal systems, victim service organizations, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure that trauma research informs practice and policy in tangible ways. In addition to more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and several edited issues/volumes, she is dedicated to sharing trauma research with public audiences (https://traumaresearchnotes.blog/). Author of "Every 90 Seconds: Our Common Cause Ending Violence against Women" (Oxford University Press, 2022), the U.S. Department of Justice recognized her contributions to the nation’s understanding of crime victims with the Vision 21 Crime Victims Research Award. Anne is a champion for the importance of community-university collaboration for public problem solving. She directed the University of Denver’s Center for Community Engagement to advance Scholarship and Learning for 10 years. Since 2021, she has served as the inaugural Associate Vice Provost of Public Good Strategy and Research. She received her PhD from the University of Oregon in 2001.

Presenter: Bethany Brand, PhD
Presenter Bio: Bethany Brand, PhD is Psychology Professor Emerit at Towson University in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. She had clinical training at Sheppard Pratt Health System, Johns Hopkins Hospital, and George Washington University Hospital. She has over 30 years of experience in researching, assessing, and treating the impact of psychological trauma with a specialization in dissociation.

Dr. Brand has been honored with the endowed Martha E. Mitten Professorship as well as teaching, research and clinical awards including the Outstanding Contribution to the Science of Trauma Psychology from the American Psychological Association. She is Associate Editor of the Journal of Trauma & Dissociation. Dr. Brand has served on national and international task forces that developed guidelines for the assessment and treatment of trauma-related disorders. She has published over 130 peer reviewed papers and three research-based books about assessing and treating dissociation, The Concise Guide to Assessing and Treating Trauma-Related DissociationFinding Solid Ground: Overcoming Obstacles in Trauma Treatment and The Finding Solid Ground Program Workbook.

Dr. Brand is the Principal Investigator on the largest treatment outcome studies to date of dissociative disorders (the TOP DD studies). The program she created with collaborators called Finding Solid Ground is the only program that has been proven by a randomized controlled trial to be effective with individuals with dissociative disorders, as well as complex PTSD. She has delivered hundreds of clinical and research presentations at national and international conferences. In addition to treating patients in her private practice, Dr. Brand serves as a forensic expert in trauma-related cases including state, federal and capital cases and an international Supreme Court case.

Presenter: Benjamin Israel, MD
Presenter Bio: "Dr. Israel is an Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine,Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Israel founded and directs UMD’s trauma-focused addictions psychiatry outpatient clinic in urban Baltimore. Dr. Israel is the clinic’s co-Principal Investigator on efforts to improve trauma-informed healthcare. He also sees patients living with complex trauma for long-term psychotherapy. He is the lead author of recent critical reviews exploring trauma-responsive addictions treatment, clinical leadership, and public health. His work includes exploring potential roles for AI to enhance trauma-informed practice. He sits on the board of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation and is Associate Editor of the Journal of Trauma and Dissociation. Dr. Israel supervises psychiatry and psychotherapy trainees at all levels. He lives in Baltimore, Maryland, with his wife and their two sons.

Presenter: Michael Salter, BA (Hons 1), PhD
Presenter Bio: 
Dr Michael Salter is a Scientia Fellow and Associate Professor of Criminology at the University of New South Wales. He is an internationally recognised expert in the study of child sexual exploitation and complex trauma. His published work includes the books Organised Sexual Abuse (2013, Routledge) and Crime, Justice and Social Media (2017, Routledge) and over fifty papers in international journals and edited collections. His research addresses the policy implications of child sexual exploitation across multiple sectors, including mental health, law enforcement and internet regulation. Dr Salter is the President-Elect of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISSTD) where he has served on the Board of Directors since 2018. Dr Salter regularly provides training to mental health professionals on child sexual exploitation. He sits on the editorial boards of the journals Child Abuse Review and the Journal of Trauma and Dissociation. Dr Salter is a member of a number of national and international advisory groups, including: the Research Working Group of the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation, the Expert Advisory Group of the eSafety Commissioner, the Advisory Group of White Ribbon Australia, and the Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence Advisory Group of Australian Institute of Health and Welfare. He is the academic member appointed by the Australian government to the National Plan Advisory Group to inform the development and implementation of the National Plan To Prevent Violence Against Women and Their Children. Dr Salter is a key advisor to the Canadian Centre for Child Protection where he has undertaken a range of projects on strategic responses to child sexual exploitation
