The Complexities of Complex Trauma Part II - Live Teleseminar Maves

This course continues the information learned in Part I and will focus on betrayal and memory, treatment modalities, the role of attachment, applications of theoretical models, and secondary trauma. The course is partly didactic, based on the assigned readings. In addition, students must be prepared to discuss theories as applied to treatment of their own clients.

Course Format: 6 sessions Teleseminar; 2.5 hour sessions each.

Target Audience

Licensed mental health professionals (psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical social workers, mental health counselors, accredited psychotherapists, etc.) who are interested in developing their skills in treating clients with chronic trauma related disorders. For Part II, the student must be treating at least one client with a chronic-trauma related disorder and must have taken the Level I Part I course to register.

This course content is at the beginning/intermediate level.

Peter Maves, PhD

Peter Maves, PhD is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in practice since 1982. He holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He was the Assistant Director of the Boulder Emergency Psychiatric Service and the psychologist for the Boulder Sheriff’s Department. He was Clinical Director of Adams Community Mental Health Center. He designed and was Clinical Director of Centennial Peaks Hospital’s Trauma and Dissociative Disorders Treatment Program and Director of Columbine Hospital’s National Trauma Treatment Center. He was the founder of the Rocky Mountain Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation. He was a Practice Monitor and oral licensing examiner for the Colorado State Board of Psychologist Examiners.

He is a Fellow and Board member of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation and frequent presenter at regional, national and international conferences on trauma and dissociation and is a member of the European Society for Trauma and Dissociation.

He has served as a consultant to insurance and managed care companies regarding the treatment of dissociative conditions, complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and severe personality disorders. As an expert witness, he assists with forensic cases involving dissociative disorders. He holds an undergraduate degree in Finance and was an institutional money manager prior to returning to school to study experimental and clinical psychology.

ASWB ACE
The International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISSTD), #1744, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved as ACE providers.  State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. ISSTD maintains responsibility for this course. ACE provider approval period: 08/20/2020 – 08/20/2021. Social workers completing this course receive 15 continuing education credits.
