Diminish Deter, Destroy, Dissociate: The Passing On of Trauma

Abstract
How does a “stuck” client become a “breakthrough” client? How are generational secrets revealed through the current client’s shame? What patterns explain unmet psychiatric needs and intrapsychic turmoil? Come learn how to “read” the history waiting to be discovered in your clients, including practical strategies and suggestions. Learn how to effectively bring healing to trauma and transform dissociation into presence. Hear a simple explanation of epigenetics that you can use with clients, examine how both trauma and defense mechanisms are passed on, and discuss case examples of how unlocking secrets from the past inspired hope for both client and clinician. Study examples both intergenerational trauma, historical trauma, and disability trauma cases, as well as well as the latest models from refugee and modern war zone research – including 2020’s trend toward community dissociation in response to the pandemic and recent intense political dramas… all of which also stem from intergenerational trauma! Difficult subjects in case studies will be covered from a pattern-approach, without specific abuse details being discussed.

This session was originally presented as a live conference session in April 2021.
