AbstractClients reporting incestuous abuse that continues into adulthood represent a relatively small sample of child sexual abuse survivors, but one that is rarely researched or discussed in clinical training. Existing cases studies suggest these clients often experience sadistic, prolonged abuse. Abuse may involve multiple perpetrators and overlap with organised and semi-organised abuse. Survivors tend to be chronically unwell and severely dissociative.

In this webinar, we will use case studies to illustrate the clinical phenomenology associated with three types of responses:classic posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)the dissociative sub-type of PTSDdissociative identity disorder (DID).We also will discuss the underlying neurobiology associated with each type of response including distinctive neural circuitries. Next, we will focus on the potential impacts of Vicarious Trauma on the trauma therapist, both personally and professionally.
